Behind Kuro.a.to
Behind KURO.A.TO stands Valentina Previtera, an architect born and raised in Italy, who earned her degree from the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio in 2021. She has nurtured a profound passion for architecture, seamlessly intertwining it with an exploration of composition and color—a pursuit that has found its fullest expression in her artistic practice.
The pseudonym KURO.A.TO was conceived in 2016, following a transformative period of work and research in Japan, where her artistic journey took root. This experience became the foundation for her creative identity, shaping both her vision and her approach to materiality.
KURO.A.TO’s work is characterized by a constant dialogue between structured knowledge and the desire for boundless experimentation. She explores a variety of mediums, from intricate small-scale collages using Japanese paper, pastels, and watercolors, to textile works crafted from recycled cotton and felt, as well as large-scale acrylic paintings.
Her compositions serve as a powerful vehicle for artistic exploration, where imagination materializes through an intricate interplay of textures, colors, and forms. Each piece embodies a dynamic balance between precision and spontaneity, evoking both harmony and depth.
In 2023, she exhibited her work in Belgium, and her pieces can now be found in private collections around the world. Valued for their striking presence and ability to enrich any living space, her works invite the viewer into a realm where artistic intuition and architectural sensibility converge.
