In 2015, she moved to Japan to explore how certain social dynamics have influenced Japanese art and architecture. That experience sparked a lasting fascination with traditional craftsmanship, particularly with tactile elements such as paper and textiles. It was during this time that she began her first visual experiments and adopted the pseudonym Kuro.a.to, an ironic distinction between her artistic identity and her role as an architect.
Over the years, her early paper collages, created with delicate Japanese paper, gradually evolved into large-scale paintings and mixed-media compositions. Her ongoing curiosity has recently led her to extend these works into textile-based “collages,” reinterpreting the materials and processes first encountered in Japan. Her paintings often draw from her collage work, while her textiles echo the gestures and rhythms of her paintings, forming a cohesive and recognizable visual language.
Today, Valentina’s practice moves fluidly across paper, fabric, oil, and acrylic on canvas. Her work is characterized by bold color palettes, layered textures, and a continuous dialogue between structure and spontaneity. Grids and circles frequently appear in her compositions, recurring symbols of both childhood instinct and architectural logic.
She has exhibited in group shows in Belgium and Italy alongside other emerging artists, and she is currently preparing for her first solo exhibition, scheduled for September 2025.
